# AI Tools MCP Server

Connect Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and any other MCP-capable assistant to the Automate & Tweak directory, so you can ask for AI tools, pricing, alternatives and side-by-side comparisons in plain language. Answers come from 1,000+ curated listings in 11 languages.

**Server URL:** `https://automateandtweak.com/mcp`

Free · Read-only · No sign-in

## What it is

The AI Tools MCP server gives your AI assistant direct, read-only access to the Automate & Tweak directory: search tools, read details with pricing, pros and cons and FAQs, browse categories, tags and pricing types, find the newest additions and compare two or three tools. It returns exactly what the public website shows, with links back to the tool pages, and it needs no account or API key.

MCP, the [Model Context Protocol](https://modelcontextprotocol.io), is an open standard that lets AI assistants connect to external tools and data sources.

## Quick start

Pick the line that matches your assistant. The server name is `automateandtweak`.

```bash
claude mcp add --transport http automateandtweak https://automateandtweak.com/mcp
```

- [Add to Cursor](cursor://anysphere.cursor-deeplink/mcp/install?name=automateandtweak&config=eyJ1cmwiOiJodHRwczovL2F1dG9tYXRlYW5kdHdlYWsuY29tL21jcCJ9)
- [Add to VS Code](vscode:mcp/install?%7B%22name%22%3A%22automateandtweak%22%2C%22type%22%3A%22http%22%2C%22url%22%3A%22https%3A%2F%2Fautomateandtweak.com%2Fmcp%22%7D)

## Set up your client

Choose your assistant. Every setup uses the server name `automateandtweak` and the same URL.

### Claude.ai & Desktop

1. Open **Customize** > **Connectors**.

2. Click **+ Add**, then **Add custom connector**.

3. Enter the name `automateandtweak` and the URL shown above.

4. Set Authentication to **No sign in** and save.

5. In a chat, click **+** > **Connectors** and switch on automateandtweak.

### Claude Code

Run this command in your terminal:

```bash
claude mcp add --transport http automateandtweak https://automateandtweak.com/mcp
```

Or share it with your team in a project `.mcp.json` file. The `type` field must be `http`:

`.mcp.json`
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "automateandtweak": {
            "type": "http",
            "url": "https://automateandtweak.com/mcp"
        }
    }
}
```

Check that it is connected with `claude mcp list`, or type `/mcp` inside Claude Code.

### ChatGPT

1. Open ChatGPT on chatgpt.com and go to the plugins / connectors settings.

2. Choose **Add custom MCP server**.

3. Enter the URL shown above and set Authentication to **No authentication**.

4. Save it, then enable it in a chat.

Custom MCP servers are not available on every ChatGPT plan, and OpenAI may move this setting. If you cannot find it, check OpenAI's current help pages.

### Cursor

Click **Add to Cursor** above, or add the server to `mcp.json` (project: `.cursor/mcp.json`, global: `~/.cursor/mcp.json`):

`mcp.json`
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "automateandtweak": {
            "url": "https://automateandtweak.com/mcp"
        }
    }
}
```

### VS Code / Copilot

Click **Add to VS Code** above, or add the server to `.vscode/mcp.json` in your workspace:

`.vscode/mcp.json`
```json
{
    "servers": {
        "automateandtweak": {
            "type": "http",
            "url": "https://automateandtweak.com/mcp"
        }
    }
}
```

In Copilot Chat, switch to Agent mode and enable the server's tools.

### Windsurf

Open the MCP configuration from the Cascade panel and add the server. Windsurf calls the URL field `serverUrl`:

```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "automateandtweak": {
            "serverUrl": "https://automateandtweak.com/mcp"
        }
    }
}
```

### Gemini CLI

Run this command:

```bash
gemini mcp add --transport http automateandtweak https://automateandtweak.com/mcp
```

Or add it to your Gemini CLI `settings.json`, where the URL field is `httpUrl`:

`settings.json`
```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "automateandtweak": {
            "httpUrl": "https://automateandtweak.com/mcp"
        }
    }
}
```

### Codex

Run this command:

```bash
codex mcp add automateandtweak --url https://automateandtweak.com/mcp
```

### Other clients

If your client only supports local (stdio) servers, bridge to the remote server with `mcp-remote`:

```bash
npx -y mcp-remote https://automateandtweak.com/mcp
```

Or use it as the command in your client's MCP configuration:

```json
{
    "mcpServers": {
        "automateandtweak": {
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "mcp-remote",
                "https://automateandtweak.com/mcp"
            ]
        }
    }
}
```

Any client that supports MCP over Streamable HTTP can use the URL directly.

## Example prompts

Try these once the server is connected. Each one has been tested against the live server.

- "Find free AI tools for making videos and compare the top three side by side." (Tools used: `search_tools`, `compare_tools`)
- "Which AI tools were added to the directory most recently?" (Tools used: `new_tools`)
- "Show me AI writing tools that have a free plan." (Tools used: `search_tools`)
- "Compare ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini on pricing, pros and cons." (Tools used: `compare_tools`)
- "I run a small bakery on a tight budget. Which freemium AI tools can help me with social media posts?" (Tools used: `search_tools`)
- "Which Chrome extensions can summarize web pages and YouTube videos?" (Tools used: `search_tools`)
- "Find AI tools that transcribe meetings, and answer in Dutch." (Tools used: `search_tools`)
- "What categories and pricing types does the directory have, and how many tools are in each?" (Tools used: `list_categories`, `list_pricing_types`)

### What happens behind the scenes

For the first prompt, your assistant calls the server like this:

1. `search_tools`

```json
{
    "query": "video",
    "pricing": "free",
    "limit": 5
}
```

2. `compare_tools`

```json
{
    "slugs": [
        "ai-studios",
        "elai",
        "dreamina"
    ]
}
```

**The answer.** The assistant combines both results into a short comparison: for each tool its pricing types, pros and cons and a link to its page on automateandtweak.com. It can then answer follow-up questions with `get_tool`.

## What's in the data

The server reads the same public directory as the website, so it always shows live tools only. Current numbers:

- AI tools: 1049
- Categories: 7
- Tags: 20
- Languages: 11

Tool names, descriptions, FAQs and pros and cons are available in all languages that have a translation. Pricing and features change, so verify important details on the tool's own website.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is the AI Tools MCP server free?

Yes. It is free to use, with no account, API key or subscription.

### Do I need to sign in or authenticate?

No. The server is public and read-only, so choose "No sign in" or "No authentication" when your client asks.

### What is the rate limit?

Each client network can send 60 requests per minute. Above that the server answers with HTTP 429 and a Retry-After header; wait a moment and try again.

### What about privacy?

The server only keeps anonymous, aggregated usage counts, for example how often each tool is called and which search terms are popular (search terms are kept for 90 days). No IP addresses, accounts or personal data are stored, and request bodies are not logged. See the [privacy policy](https://automateandtweak.com/privacy-policy/) for the website itself.

### Can the server change or delete anything?

No. All nine tools are read-only: they only read the public directory data and write nothing.

### Is this affiliated with Anthropic or OpenAI?

No. Automate & Tweak is an independent directory. Claude is a product of Anthropic and ChatGPT a product of OpenAI; the server works with any MCP-compatible assistant, and all product names belong to their owners.

### I found wrong or outdated tool data. What should I do?

Tell us on the [contact page](https://automateandtweak.com/contact/) and mention the tool. Pricing and features change often, so also check the tool's own website.

### Which languages are supported?

All 11 site languages: English, Dutch, German, French, Spanish, Chinese, Bulgarian, Hindi, Portuguese, Japanese and Italian. Pass the optional `locale` argument (for example `nl`) or ask your assistant to answer in your language.

### The connection does not work. What can I check?

The server only accepts POST requests with JSON-RPC messages, so opening the URL in a browser shows this page instead. Your client must support MCP over Streamable HTTP. If it only supports local (stdio) servers, use `npx -y mcp-remote https://automateandtweak.com/mcp`. HTTP 429 means you hit the rate limit.

## For developers and agents

Everything a client or agent needs to use the server programmatically.
